Working Group 3: Energy Infrastructure and Sector Coupling

A successful energy transition in all sectors requires the interconnection of energy generation, industry, mobility and buildings. To make this possible, the energy system and its infrastructure have to change: Flexibility has to be increased, e.g. with storage systems or by using demand-side flexibility; charging stations for electric vehicles have to be integrated into the system; hydrogen will function as a link between the sectors.

Sharing experiences and best practice examples will contribute to the successful transformation of both countries’ energy systems. The German and European hydrogen strategies also offer opportunities for close cooperation between the countries.

The working group’s core topics are:

  • Grid flexibility options/energy storage systems
  • Sector coupling: e-mobility and grid integration
  • Green hydrogen
